Kyle Berner

"I'm looking forward to helping spa directors partner with a brand such as Feelgoodz to lead the charge on sustainability and wellness in the spa industry."
"I had this list and wanted to cross out the items, trusting that in doing so, it would lead to a path in which I was most passionate about. Boy, it sure did!"

When he was in his 20s, Kyle Berner decided to create a bucket list. Well actually, it was a little smaller than a typical bucket list, so he called it "The Pail List." (Get it?)

Passionate and fearless, Berner craved a variety of experiences in hopes that he could learn something from each. One Pail List item was to "work outside," which is why he became a hot dog vendor. Another was to "create something from scratch," which is why he became a music producer.

"I had this list and wanted to cross out the items," Berner says, "trusting that in doing so, it would lead to a path in which I was most passionate about. Boy, it sure did!"

In 2008, the New Orleans native founded his own company called Feelgoodz, which creates sustainable, fair trade, artisan-crafted footwear and accessories. This past year, Berner (now 38 years old) integrated that business into the spa industry.

This was never part of his plan, but Berner met Tara Grodjesk from TARA Spa Therapy Inc. at Expo West in Anaheim, Calif. Grodjesk speculated that Feelgoodz would be a great addition to the spa industry, especially with its focus on sustainability. So in May, Feelgoodz attended the Green Spa Network Buyers Conference and received a positive response. Berner built on that momentum and attended the 2019 ISPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas in September.

"I'm looking forward to helping spa directors partner with a brand such as Feelgoodz to lead the charge on sustainability and wellness in the spa industry," Berner says.

"The products that we sell embody a fantastic sustainability story, and spa dierctors and buyers can offer a brand to their guests that align with the needs of the growing wellness community."

Next year, Berner says Feelgoodz will introduce its own branded mission called "The Artisan Guarantee," and he believes the spa industry continues to align with brands that share similar values as Feelgoodz.

Berner, a tennis and pickleball enthusiast who spends his free time traveling, is also a published author. On a trip to Thailand, his flip flops busted, and his book From Backpacker to CEO tells the story of how that led to founding his company. He wrote the book so it can serve as inspiration to trust your gut and make things happen.

For now, Berner continues to follow his routine: Working by 8:30 a.m., no matter where he is. He starts with a to-do list and crosses items off it throughout the day. Each day is different for an entrepreneur, but he is flexible and open-minded.

That attitude is how Berner ended up in a place he never expected, but he is excited to immerse himself in the spa industry.
