Mitchel Rivera

“I got my big break as the Experience Director of Gran Melia Puerto Rico, where I was at first collaborating with the spa team to enhance the guest experience, but within a year, I was offered to lead the spa amongst my many other responsibilities. Loving my role and understanding the impact it had on the world’s wellness, I fell in love with the industry.”
“I am 35 years of age, probably amongst the youngest spa owners in the industry. I love waking up each morning and positively impacting the people around me.”

Founder/Owner, Cloud Spa

For 11 years now, Mitchel Rivera has been thriving in the budding spa industry of his hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico. From seeking higher education, to pursuing his ambitions, to drawing determination out of natural disaster, he has never failed to see the bright side of things. “I am 35 years of age, probably amongst the youngest spa owners in the industry. I love waking up each morning and positively impacting the people around me,” he says.

As a young art director working daily behind a computer, Mitchel’s talent for making people smile was not allowed to flourish. After receiving multiple master’s degrees, one of which was in Hospitality Management, he simply felt he had more to offer the world as an innovative and creative individual. Believing that “we are in control of our destiny,” he set out to seek a new horizon. Now, over a decade later, Mitchel’s contagious joy and enthusiasm are bringing smiles to the faces of many.

After a few years of prosperity, adversity struck. In 2017, all of Puerto Rico suffered under the onslaught of the most devastating hurricane ever to hit the island, Hurricane Maria.

“Post-hurricane,” said Mitchel, “I took a leap of faith and decided to open my own concept, now known as Cloud Spa.” True to character, Mitchel sought after the blessing born of disaster and is now very proud to have his own spa concept.

On top of his exceptional drive, Mitchel’s generosity shines through in his fundraising efforts for Puerto Rico’s Down’s Syndrome Foundation and his membership with the Global Wellness Day Initiative, for whom he has acted as Puerto Rico’s Ambassador for three years. Though one might boast about the degree of accomplishments and initiatives Mitchel has made, he’ll be the first to tell you that his proudest accomplishment is being a father to his two beautiful daughters, Dilailah (seven) and Amelie (five).

One of Mitchel’s favorite yearly destinations is the ISPA Conference & Expo, which also happens to be his favorite ISPA member benefit. If you happen to be a fan of food, the TV show Dexter, and the Glee version of Don’t Stop Believing, Mitchel is definitely someone you need to connect with at Conference.
