Michael Harmsworth

Michael lives by his favorite quote, “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”
One of his favorite adventures is the “Three Peaks Challenge.”

CEO, ESPA International

“Real, original and effective.” Those are three words ISPA member Michael Harmsworth uses to describe himself. They also happen to be the brand values of ESPA International, an international natural skincare and luxury beauty products company.

Previously working for a management and marketing consultancy firm in London, Michael left to help his mother, world-renowned spa industry leader Susan Harmsworth, to launch ESPA, which partners with luxury hoteliers, property companies and owners around the globe to create some of the world’s finest spas.

Over the past 25 years, Michael helped build ESPA from scratch and it is now a recognized global leader in spa. Michael says this accomplishment is second to one other, “My four kids and happy family, of course.”

He and his wife make a point to give their sons unique experiences around the globe, as they love to travel and educate the boys about different cultures.

The Harmsworth family also  strongly believes in giving back to the community and is regularly involved in different events.  Michael also ensures ESPA often supports charitable events, one of his favorite adventures being the “Three Peaks Challenge.”

“The Three Peaks Challenge is where you climb the tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales and do them in quick succession,” Michael said. “The aim is within 24 hours.”

As CEO of a company with many spa partners awarded four and five stars in the 2017 Forbes Travel Guide, Michael doesn’t have much free time. But when he does, he spends it with his family.

“I play an unusual amount of numbers board games with my kids,” Michael remarked. “Dominoes, liar dice, Mancala, Perdu, etc. We get competitive!”

The accomplishments of Michael’s life are things that he is passionate about and has worked hard for.

In fact, he lives by his favorite quote, “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”
